Creative (and Honest) Workplace Wellbeing InsightsCreative (and Honest) Workplace Wellbeing Insights
Workplace wellbeing looks different in every organisation, and that’s what makes it so interesting.
During the National Workplace Wellbeing Conference, we asked attendees one simple question:
“What initiatives or practices does your workplace currently have in place to support employee wellbeing?”
Based on the responses we received, we’ve pulled together 5 key takeaways that capture the creativity, honesty, and passion we saw at the conference. These insights might just spark ideas for your own workplace wellbeing initiatives.
1. EAPs Are Everywhere - But They’re Not Always Enough
Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) were the most common response. A solid foundation, but plenty of people admitted they needed more.
“EAP and flu shots… need so much more.”
“EAP program but need to do better.”
Takeaway: An EAP is a solid foundation, but employees want more proactive, everyday wellbeing support — not just crisis management.
2. The Small Things Really Count
Some of the most impactful initiatives were surprisingly simple, and that’s what makes them powerful.
- Celebrating birthdays and anniversaries
- Gift bags and RU OK Day activities
- Daily check-ins and office snacks
- Quiet spaces for focus or sensory needs
- …and yes, shop dogs for pats
Takeaway: You don’t need a massive budget to build a culture of care. The little touches add up to a big difference.
3. Wellbeing Is Getting Creative
Some workplaces are thinking outside the box (and we love it):
- Menopause programs and mini-conferences
- Mindfulness sessions and “Wellness Wednesdays”
- Vicarious trauma support programs
- Flexible work zones and quiet rooms
- Rewards programs with gym passes, massage vouchers, and movie tickets
Takeaway: Wellbeing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Find creative ways to support the unique needs of your team.
4. Some Are Just Getting Started (And That’s Okay)
Not everyone had a long list of initiatives to share, and that’s an important insight too.
“Not enough clearly!!!”
“None currently but will be exploring once I pick up my next gig.”
Takeaway: You don’t have to do everything at once. Starting small can create momentum for bigger, better initiatives later.
5. You’re the Wellbeing Champions
Some of the most inspiring responses came from individuals who are already driving wellbeing. Whether it’s in their whole organisation, their team, or even just themselves:
“It’s just me in the business :) But I’m always looking for great initiatives for my clients.”
“Yes, I am the Quality Service Officer (Chief Heart Officer).”
“I am in the process of bringing wellbeing strategies to frontline practitioners.”
Takeaway: Championing wellbeing doesn’t always require a big title or a huge team. Sometimes, you are the wellbeing champion, and every small initiative counts.
